The Conjuring radio trailer analysis

Film Radio Spots 2013 - Gravity, Pacific Rim, The Conjuring & The Great Gatsby from Angell Sound Studios on Vimeo.

I decided to analyse The Conjuring Radio Trailer. The trailers starts at around 1 minute.

The beginning of the trailer the narrator states the names of other films made by the same director. This is to entice the target audience of horror fans. This suggests that the individuals like enjoy these films mentioned (Saw and Insidious) will enjoy this film. It also suggests the genre of the film in which is about to be advertised, as the other films are well known horror films. The film is then described as the horror event of the year, which suggests it is not something to miss. This is then followed by a sound clip, which mentions haunting, further reinforcing the idea of this film being a horror film, while giving the audience some clue as to what the film is actually about. The Trailer then mentions what critics are saying about the film, describing it as a 'master class in terror', which suggests that there are no horror films like it. The whole trailer shows the film to be unique and different to mainstream horror films, and something to stand out from other films of the same genre. The trailer uses a variation of key words to describe the film to make it sound attractive to their target audience and the use of the sound clips from the film helps to back up the claims being made by the voiceover.
