Viral adds- The Blair witch project

Plot summary-
Three student filmmakers go on a mission to film a documentary about a so called local legend ‘The blair witch’. In the forests in Mary land  it is said that many children in the 1940s had gone missing and people to this day still avoid those woods. The students however still set out to look for things to prove the legend is real, they set out with hiking gear and two cameras, the stumble across some stones that seem very strategically placed and they later get lost in the woods. Constant strange sounds are occurring in the woods and the students seem to get suspicious and they are due home. Josh goes missing and the recordings are found a year later and reveals to the actually events that happened in those woods.

A film production company Haxan films put together a webpage that gave the story behind the legend of the Blair With and this went online in 1998, the film was aided in january a year later at the Sundance dilm festival and gained $1millon. The webpage was used in order to be the main focus of their publicity and for six months they used many low budget tactics in order to successfully promote their film, prior to this they reportedly spent $1million on promotion.

In the opening weekend of the film it grossed $1.5 million in 27 screens and all screens were full and many qued for hours on end to ensure them a seat to watch the film, the screen number was doubled by october in Ireland and the UK. In total the film reeled in over $248 million and this was the second highest investment of any film and even though today we have advantages due to modern cinemas still to this day no independent dilm has come that close to the campaign.

The website to this day still exists, it has been updated to reflect the 10 year anniversary of the movie and the release. when the footage was released to families of the missing film makers who asked the film production to piece the story together.
There’s a section detailed with photos of the film preparing for their filming expedition, and individual biographies with images from their childhood, tapes and images from the after effect, many techniques were used such as interviews of the parents and people whom worked on the case. To make an impact and to increase the belief that events were based on true stories snippets of the film was taken from recovered tapes in the journal and this made the over all experience for viewers even better.

Multipul low budget trailers was shown online in order to gain more viewers and create a wider fan base, and also shown on sci-fi channels to appeal to the intended audience.
