sound effects in the science fiction film Wall-E

Wall-E
This is a film that has very little dialogue and it relies heavily
on music and sound effects to communicate with the audience and show hoe the robot is feeling and its emotions, this is done very well in the film, this puts a lot of emphasis on every sound in the film and also gives a great impact making it a lot more effective.Wall-e is a rubbish collecting robot that is set in the distant future a few hundred years in advance, who lives in a distopian world and left to clean until the earth becomes livable again, when watching the film i picked up that for the first half of the film no dialogue was used and this was done well as we can understand the relationship between Wall-e and a cockroach who happens to be his friend. Wall-e can only make noises that you would expect from a typical robot and we later see another robot Eve who comes to the planet who again can not talk, this is some how like a islet movie as we pic up on the body language and the other digetic sounds providing us with a setting of the movie and what the two characters are like.
Andrew Stanton the directer and also the writer of the film did an outstanding job at set tog the mood through the amount of sounds and different effects used throughout, he provides us with the futuristic elements that have come to a end in humanity and conveys loneliness through Wall-e.
The lack of sound puts huge emphasis on even the slightest sounds and how every sound has some sort of meaning, meaning we can as an audience form some sort of attachment to the film and maybe relate to how Wall-e is feeling.

It could be considered as almost a 'silent film'. Auditory sound as we call it was not available until the late 1800's and motion picture along with live sound and music was composed in order to create the 'Silent film era'. This was when technology was not advanced to the level it is today and so then live music would be performed making movies one of the largest source of employment for musicians.

I watched a 10 minute youtube video about how the sounds of the film was made and composed and this gave me a lot more information about how the film directors used animation sound design and this also helped me when looking at sound effects to include in my own project.  The people in the video said that when making the film they took into consideration how they thought they would actually sound and how they would be powered.

A lot of the sounds and ambience in the movie was recorded on location then edited and combined with different sounds in post production in order to create different and unique sounds for each individual character to form different attachments to them. Every individual sound has its own meaning and to portray different emotions, every sound was recorded individually to fit the timing of the image in order to show the full detail of emotions the characters are set out to.
