Film poster analysis

The main point for a film poster is for the audience to be imidiantly drawn in to it just by a quick glimpse in order for them to create a thought of the film before they have even been to watch the movie. Film posters are made in order to encourage people to watch up coming films as part of a selling technique of films, also film posters are made for the audience to make an establishment of what the films genre is and what it could be about, making film posters stand out. In particular the film  2012. This poster is very effective as it in terms of colour it is not too extravagant and does not give too much away, also the main focus of the poster the distorted world immediately catches the eye of the audience and this is a technique used in order for people to gain an understanding of what is going to happen/ what the film is all about. This marketing effect is used and it gains the attention of science fiction lovers though the imagery and the lack of text also gives very little away about the film meaning that the audience is  very intrigued to see what the film is about making them want to se it.
The dark colour scheme for the poster is also very representative of the film genre and the things that may occur in the film, this is done for the audience to make assumptions of the purpose of the film, the titles also stand out as it looks very robotic and three diminutional to some extent suggesting the world is rising like it is on the image, this could be foreshadowing what the film is about also.

They are several layers to the poster in order to make the world look like it is coming to a divesting end. We can clearly see that the city is based on planet Earth and more specifically America, from the huge hole that we can see the city is falling into it suggests that the work is turning into a dystopia and this signifies the end of the world.

District nine.
The colour scheme for this science fiction film poster is yet again dull colours such as blacks, grey and shades of brown and it has a sombre mood to the poster. There is a lot going off in the poster in order to capture the audience attention, the robots are walking out of smoke indicates that they are attempting to stay out of the limelight and that they are separate from other life.
The text that is displayed on the poster has a metallic look to it which again pot ays that the film is about technology that is advanced and futuristic elements involved, however in comparison to the background that looks somewhat derelict, 'you are not welcome here' makes it seem personal to the audience as it suggests that people are not allowed into the district.
In terms of writing on the poster there is actually a lot compared to many other posters, this could be a unique selling point for the film as the star cast and the directors note could gain a wider audience as fans of the cast and previous films may proceed to watch the film in support even if they do not know what the film is actually about. Furthermore the font of the writing shows the nature of the film and the genre being Science fiction due to the holographic silver and the square box writing as this is typically what we would think of when asked about a science fiction film.

Men in black three

This film poster is very typical of a science fiction film in regards to the monochrome dark aspects of the poster and the block bold writing, this is used to grab the attention of the audience as it stands out from the plain basic background. However there is not much writing on the film and in many cases this would be due to the fact the producers do not wish to give much away, however this is done in MIB3 as this is the third film and the fans already have a clear idea of what the movies involve and what they could expect from the third movie.
Also star power is used as a huge actor Will Smith is placed ironically in the middle of the poster gaining the attention of many as he is one of the biggest actors known world wide, this will be done as a form of marketing as all generations and a large scale of people will be able to identify whom it is and what the film is about.
The colour scheme in this poster consists of shades of grey and black that relates to the film that contains high end technology that relates to aliens. Furthermore at the top of the poster in a shade of grey we can read "back in time" and this gives us a hint of what the film is about. The character positioning in the page shows that the actor Will Smith is in the center suggesting that he is the dominant character, despite the fact that the other male characters are stood close behind him suggests that have a high position within society. In addition we can see at the bottom of the page that there is a hash tag '#MIB3' and this is twitter related and is viral marketing as it gets fan interaction occurring online.

The Dark Night
Immediately from this film poster we can identify the genre of this as being a sci-
fi crime film, this is obvious due to the placing of the antagonist 'the joker' he is placed in the middle of the screen holding a rifle giving off the impression the film will include violence and gun crime.
typically male characters are heretic in films such as this one and usually shown on the front go posters, however this subverts the 'typical' poster as the male criminal is seen to be the main focus of the film and the dark colours suggest that he is some what a danger to society as well as himself. The colours of his own outfit could suggest this, but also the joker colour purple suggest many different things and the background reinforces the feeling of a districted society and the destroyed buildings and the sparks suggest conflict between 'good and evil'.
The film location is established also non this poster as clear links are abled to be made as the large sky scrapers show that it is set in a large city, known as Gotham.
