STEP 3 AND 4 of how to make a short film

Step three and four

Step 3 involves establishing the characters, their world and their problem. The character is a lonely character and takes solace in distributing illegal tapes, it becomes exciting due to the dystopian world in which they live in. The tapes in which they distribute are illegal and is faced with a problem of whether to tell the police about horrific tapes they have received and face the consequences of selling the tapes themselves. However within our film the ending is not an efficient solution to their problem as it reveals our film has in fact been a film itself and therefore the solution is the ending of the playback.

The dystopian future will still have recognisable features so we don't overwhelm the audience with the element of virtual reality. To establish a dystopian future we want to focus more on the ways we can achieve this via content, dialogue rather than mise-en-scene. For the audience that will typically expect a future that depicts an  advanced technological world, we want to depict a dystopia where the buildings are under developed.

To create the problem we will constantly reinforce the idea that what they do is illegal and when everything is calm in the protagonists life we will present the problem in the form of an anonymous character.

Step 4
Step 4 involves working out when the character, the environment and the problem arises. The character will be presented in the first scene, then gradually throughout scenes 2 to 5 the environment will become clear and identifiable to the audience and then finally the problem will arise in scene 7 and the solution in scene 8.
