As our film features a snippet of a brutal murder I decided to research into gruesome murders within horror and thriller films. It will allow us to create an effective gruesome murder.
Cannibal Holocaust
This early found footage film followed a documentary crew who had gone into the Amazon to film cannibal tribes. The documentary style of the film and the fact they employed real indigenous people as actors led some people to believe that the on deaths were real. The cast and crew had to appear before an Italian court to prove that their film's special effects were effects, nothing else. However, despite the human deaths being staged, the animals being slaughtered within the film was real footage. The court ruled that the cast and crew were guilty of obscenity and animal cruelty as animals were killed purely for entertainment and shock value.
The most popular horror franchise that are known for gruesome and calculated deaths that shock audiences are Saw and Final destination. Saw specialise in providing audiences with horrific violent scenes to show the vulnerability of human's when faced with death.
