research into potential distribution

Warner Bros:

Warner Bros distributes a wide range of films, around 18-22 per year. Warner bros distributes films on a global basis, and I believe this would benefit our film as we would be able to distribute it on a wider scale. As warner doesn't just distribute certain genre films, I believe that it would be a great distributor. Our film wouldn't be the first dystopian sci-fi film that warner have distributed as they have distributed A clockwork Orange, which is a very famous dystopian film. However this distribution company is a larger distributor, therefore it is slightly unrealistic, and probably wouldnt distribute a low budget short.

Artificial Eye:

Artificial Eye is a British film distributor, releasing many critically acliamed films from directors such as Lars Von Trier and Michael Haneke. Artificial Eye have released more Canne Palme d'Or winners than any UK  Distributor, such as Blue is the Warmest Colour. They have released other arty films such as Anti Christ. I believe that this is a great distributor for our film as it releases a lot more contriversial films like our film is. Also they fact that our this distribution company would also be benifical because it is based in the UK, so we have easier access to the distributor.

Arrow Films

Arrow films are a UK distributor based in Herts UK and was established in 1991. Arrow films are one of the leadingIndependent distributors of cinema, art-house, horror and classic films on DVD. As an independent film company, based in the UK this distributor would be good for our film. However from what I can gather, Arrow Films only distributes films on DVD, which wouldn’t be ideal for us, as we would preferably want to distribute our film in the cinema as well, as  studies show that our audience (15-25) enjoy watching films in the cinema and they are most likely to go to the cinema out of all the age groups

Vertigo Films

Vertigo Films is also a UK film and distribution company founded in 2002. Vertigo Films site states “The Company’s mission is to create and distribute commercially driven independent cinema”. They distribute films from a range of genres. This film company may be better suited to our film, as it distributes films to cinemas, which is what we would do, as this would appeal to our target audience.

Soda Pictures

Soda Pictures is an Anglo-Canadian film distributor  of art house, independent and world cinema. Established in London in 2002 by Eve Gabereau and Edward Fletcher, the company has distributed over 300 films from all corners of the world. In September 2014, it was announced that Soda Pictures was acquired by the Canadian production company Thunderbird Films in order to join a greater media group, build a theatrical film division in Canada and expand their existing business in the UK and Ireland. As Soda Pictures has a history of distributing independent films, I believe that this company could be advantageous to us. Soda Pictures are also responsible for the film The Riot Club, which is also a thriller, therefore I believe the use of this distributor would reach our demographic as they have dealt with similar audiences in the past. Also this is a UK distributor, therefore a local distributor would be ideal.
