The film by James Mcteigue demonstrates the rebellion against injustice an
d oppressing government of the United Kingdom, in the future. Symbolism is used in the film in order to juxtapose the idea of individuality and the rebellion against conformity, the main character 'V' gathers support throughout the film off the citizens that is growing more dissatisfied with the control that the government has over them, he manages to take advantage of the growing animosity.
A mask is used in order to hide his true identity and also for his followers to protect their personal identities in a method of anonymous rebellion allowing the people to get across their true feelings and rebel against justice. The character 'v' was a victim of the government of illegal generic testing and he was the only one to survive and escape the torture, and he has vowed to bring justice to his county.
The film also explores unfair judgements and discriminatory stereotypes as the government enforce strict rules and regulations suppressing individuals , as homosexual was seen as a crime and people were not allowed to be exposed to their religions. Im the scene where a mid shot is used of V cooking food he has an apron on that has flowers on it. In terms of symbolization the most significant form in the film is V's mask as the purpose of this wa to give him a different identity, he's about the whole of society and by wearing the mask he becomes something bigger than than himself and the mask also represents the opposition and revolt due to the origins of its design, it is taken from Gut Fawkes, and to show his obscurity and it also highlights that it only takes one signifiant chain reaction to change a county. In the scene where the dominos fall symbolizes the government and the people of London rebelling, the editing used is montage representing his plan in action, further more it symbolizes the idea that one idea can reshape a nation and force an oppressive government into chaos.
